Wayne extends a helping had to the New Spirit Community

New Spirit Community Presbyterian Church and Wayne Presbyterian Church know that “Community” is not a location, it’s a shared mission!

God has called the congregations of New Spirit and Wayne to come together to serve the southwest urban community by providing resources, volunteers and programs that enrich and improve the quality of life for individuals in the area.

New Spirit Community Presbyterian Church at 58th Street and Chester Avenue has announced a collaborative project with a partner-in-residence, Wayne Presbyterian Church. The partnership will be called The Common Place and will focus on supporting early childhood and elementary education in Southwest.

While the durable, grey stone building, constructed in 1906, still provides a secure haven for their spiritual activities and outreach into the community, parts of the New Spirit facility are in dire need of renovation. As with so many of the older religious buildings in the city, the funding of extensive reroofing, a new heating plant and other needed repairs has proved well beyond the means of the present membership.

Providentially, Wayne Presbyterian Church out in main-line Wayne, PA decided to lend a hand. “God has pulled our hearts to the Southwest for many years,” reflected Susan Aggarwal, Co-Chair of the Mission Committee at Wayne. “This should be a great partnership.”purple bar
