Stewardship Education
Education of the congregation is the beginning of a healthy journey of Christian Stewardship.
Here are several ideas and suggestions for Stewardship Education:
- Engage the session and other church leader in Dwelling in the Word or discussions around scripture dealing with money on a regular basis. Doing it once is not enough. Healthy stewardship needs to have ongoing conversations about Biblical understanding of money.
- Plan and schedule a couple (again one is not enough) of Adult Forum/Classes on stewardship. Some congregations have Sunday morning or evening adult forums or classes that could focus on Stewardship. If you don’t have designated times makes plans for special events focus on stewardship education. The www.thethoughtfulchristian.com/ and www.thepresbyterianleader.com/ both have lessons/classes designed around different aspects of Stewardship.
- Preach regularly about stewardship. Again once a year is not enough. Meet with other preachers to get some ideas and support. In the church newsletter or on the webpage include a section dedicated to stewardship.
- Christian Education Teams/Committees and Educators should also plan to include stewardship education in the children and youth programs. There are many resources available through the Presbytery’s Resource Center. Click here to access the online catalogue.
