Since we organized in 1717, the Presbytery of Philadelphia has extended into the Greater Philadelphia region, with nearly 130 churches and worshiping communities in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties. Our collective presence nurtures and empowers nearly 30,000 members who are commissioned to go into all the world as disciples of Jesus Christ. As we lean into our next century of witness, we trust the faith we proclaim, the grace we share, and the hope we live into will be nourished by the same Spirit who birthed us 300 years ago.
We invite you to join us in the varied ways we will celebrate our tricentennial and even spark new ministry efforts in light of the good news of Jesus Christ that is as urgent today as it was when we first organized.
A BOLD CHALLENGE
If every member of our congregations contributed $10, we could easily reach our goal and support these critical ministries in our communities.
$300,000 for 300 Years of Faithfulness
JOIN US IN A BOLD CHALLENGE!
The 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee and the Presbytery Leadership Collegium have identified 2017 as the year to emphasize education, restorative justice and the alleviation of the school-to-prison pipeline that continues to plague our cities and our nation. We challenge our Presbytery, congregations, church members and friends to raise $300,000 in honor of our 300 years. The funds will be equally distributed among eight initiatives (listed below) already transforming lives within this mission focus. Join us as we seek to celebrate God’s faithfulness in the life of this presbytery and our faithful response across three centuries of service.
Our culminating worship celebration will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017. This gathering will include:
Guest preachers Rev. Dr. Craig Barnes, President of Princeton Theological Seminary, and Rev. Denise Anderson, Co-Moderator of the 222nd General Assembly;
Collective youth and adult choirs led by Dr. Donald Dumpson and other music leaders from around our presbytery;
Special guests and leaders from the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and our local community;
Celebration of saints past and present, whose faithfulness continue to shape the spirit of our witness today and tomorrow;
Post-event fellowship and reception.
Join us as we reaffirm how we have indeed been a people born in faith, rooted in grace and answer God’s call in Jesus Christ to live into hope.

As a part of our 300th Anniversary, the Presbytery of Philadelphia produced a short film as a way to reach back into our shared history as a means to mobilize us for present and future witness in this time and place. Check out how some of our leadership interpret what it means to be first, to include reflections from The First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia and First African Presbyterian Church.
