The Scholarship Fund for Church Leaders of the Presbytery of Philadelphia

The Presbytery of Philadelphia has assistance available to help church leaders of a local congregation attend a short term education event such as a seminar, workshop, or conference.

Criteria for Applications

  • All applicants must be minister members of the Presbytery of Philadelphia or active participants of Presbytery of Philadelphia congregations.
  • Each congregation may have up to four members (including pastors) receive assistance per calendar year.
  • The applicant must be at least 15 years old and an active member of a local church.
  • The application form should be received at least three weeks in advance of the event and include brochure, descriptive literature or detailed description of the event.
  • Other sources of funding, i.e. church or denomination scholarships or continuing education fund, need to listed on the application. You do not need to list your personal out of pocket funds.
  • Normally the session should endorse the application.
  • A person is eligible for assistance for only one event each year.
  • Courses for academic credits will not be considered for scholarship award.

Funds are for assistance only. Maximum amount awarded to any one person in one year shall be equal to 50% of the total cost of tuition, reasonable travel, food and lodging for the event minus other declared sources of funding. Example: The total cost of the event including tuition, travel, tuition, food and lodging is $600. The local church will provide a scholarship of $300. The Scholarship Fund for Church leaders will cover 50% or $150 of the remainder of the cost of the event.

The Gerald & Margaret R. Andrews Scholarships

The Gerald & Margaret R. Andrews Scholarships were established by Margaret R. Andrews who requested that the scholarships be awarded to persons attending Temple University subject to the following provisions:

(A) each applicant to be an active member at least one year of one of the following churches that are presently located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:
Berean Presbyterian Church, Broad & Diamond;
First African Presbyterian Church, 42nd & Girard
Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19th & York; or
Lombard Central Presbyterian Church, 42nd & Powelton

(B) each applicant to be a graduate of the Philadelphia Public School System

( C) each applicant to be accepted at Temple University as an undergraduate or graduate student.
