See you at the September Meeting at Overbrook!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope you had a great summer and are entering the new program year with renewed focus and energy.

overbrook pcWe are looking forward to welcoming you at the September meeting of the Southwest Regional Commission. This meeting will be held at Overbrook Presbyterian Church, located at 6376 City Ave., Philadelphia, PA. We’ll begin with conversation over dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting proper at 7:30 p.m. We will close the evening with worship, including the Lord’s Supper. The docket for the meeting will follow soon. Details are still being confirmed, but we wanted to make sure you had this on your calendar, knowing that calendars fill quickly in September..

The cost of the meal is $9 per person, and includes a full meal of pasta, salad, dessert and beverages. Please RSVP to pastorpam2@aol.com so we know how many to expect.

The primary focus of our conversation at this meeting will be the shared mission and ministry of our Southwest Regional Commission. We’d like to see and hear what is already happening, so we are asking you to send us five digital photos of your church in mission in advance of the meeting and come prepared to tell your stories – celebrations, challenges and adventures in mission – at the dinner table. Photos should be sent to me at pastorpam2@aol.com by September 20. Then, during the meeting, a significant amount of time has been set aside for conversation about what God may be calling us to do together.

This meeting will continue the style we set at our first gathering in May. As much as possible, we will be around tables, developing community and allowing conversation with one another and with the Holy Spirit.

Since the Regional Commissions are still fairly new, this is probably a good time to remind you that this counts as a meeting of the full presbytery would. Teaching elders are expected to attend as they would a meeting of the full presbytery and congregations should send delegates in the same numbers as they would to a meeting of the full presbytery. As we try to improve our communications with people who should be invited, would you please let me know if there are retired pastors or those serving as Ministers at Large who should regularly worship with your congregation and so should probably be invited to be a part of this commission?

I look forward to being with you on September 25!

In Christ’s service,

Pam McShane, SW Regional Convener
