“But strive first for the kindom of God and his righteousness.”
The General Assembly consists of Commissioners and Young Adult Advisory Delegates elected by presbyteries, Theological Student Advisory Delegates and other ecumenical partners from around the world. Half of the commissioners are elders, half are ministers. Individual commissioners are assigned to serve on one of the Committees of the Assembly. The 223rd General Assembly will be in St. Louis, MO at the America’s Center Convention Center
The Presbytery of Philadelphia will send a delegation made up of the following:
4 Ruling Elder Commissioners*
4 Teaching Elder Commissioners*
1 Young Adult Advisory Delegate (YAAD) – must be 17-23 years of age
1 Theological Student Advisory Delegate (TSAD) – A graduate theological, must be either an inquirer or a candidate in preparation for ministry under care of a presbytery.
Together they review the work of synods, review and seek to resolve controversies in the church, and are responsible for matters of common concern to the whole church. They affirm and celebrate new ministry initiatives and serve as a symbol of unity for the church. As a gathered assembly they “seek together to find and represent the will of Christ” (Book of Order F-3.0204). Recommended actions requiring a change in the PC(USA) Constitution (Book of Order and Book of Confessions) get forwarded to the 171 presbyteries for their considered approval.
All our commissioners and delegates representing the Presbytery of Philadelphia, as well as members from our presbytery who will attend as observers, are invited to a luncheon hosted by the Presbytery of Philadelphia at thePorano Pasta restaurant in St. Louis. Please RSVP here:
