Speaker Series Celebrates the 250th Anniversary of Old Pine Street Church
Founded in 1768, Old Pine Street Church (“Old PINE”) was known as “The Church of the Patriots” during the American Revolution. A congregation of the Presbyterian Church USA, today Old Pine is an inclusive, vibrant, historic, and mission-centered congregation celebrating its past and moving forward in faith. To commemorate its 250th Anniversary, Old Pine is holding a distinguished speaker series with topics that are both timely and engaging.
Faith & War (November 5, 2017)
All are invited to hear Dr. William Harrison Taylor, associate professor of history at Alabama State University, who will explore the Presbyterian Church’s role in the America Revolution in his presentation: “Faith & War: American Presbyterians and the War for Independence.” Drawing from his scholarship in religious history, Dr. Taylor provides a view into the impact the early American Presbyterian church had on our nations’ struggle for independence and how this in turn helped shape the denomination’s developing nationalist spirit.
