So Glad

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!” Psalm 122:1

We dream our dreams. The second-string quarterback dreams of that moment when the coach sends him into the game. Third down, the game tied, and the clocking ticking toward the end of the fourth quarter, he was glad and little bit scared when they said to him, “Your turn!”

It was her first choice among the colleges she had visited, but the tuition was way too high for her family of modest means. She was more than glad when the financial aid office told her she had been selected to receive that very substantial and generous scholarship.

Through the voice of the church, the God of promise and hope says to those of us who could only dream about “what if ”and “maybe,”“Let us go to the house of the Lord!” There, in the words of the old hymn, “Your hand in sight of all my foes, does still my table spread.”

What a glad privilege, Lord, to be invited into you house, and to be the voice of invitation to others. Amen.
