Purpose

Commission on Ministry

As the Commission on Ministry walks alongside the sessions of our churches, we aid in the following discernment and visioning opportunities:

  • Walk alongside pastoral search committees
  • Approve pastoral calls
  • Appoint temporary pastors
  • Charter New Congregations
  • Dissolve pastoral relationships
  • Dismiss Ministers of Word and Sacraments from the Presbytery
  • Open or close a pastoral position
  • Appoint Administrative Commissions to ordain and/or install
  • Approve annual changes in terms of call for Ministers of Word and Sacrament serving congregations
  • Appoint Moderators
  • Maintain an up-to-date pulpit supply list
  • Approve Member Status
  • Approve Honorable Retirement
  • Give permission for baptism & communion by Ministers of Word and Sacraments serving outside of congregations
  • Recommend relief from vacancy dues
  • Validate Ministries

Other Extensions of Ministry and Leadership Support

  • Provide 1st and 3rd Party Training and Resources
  • Assist in Conflict Resolution
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for congregations and leadership sustainability
  • Develop and teach practices and standards for pastoral transitions
  • Provide for the implementation of equal opportunity employment for ministers and candidates without regard to race, ethnic origin, sex, age, marital status, or disability
