Meet The Rev. Dr. Katie Day, Speaker at NW Region’s May 28 Meeting held at Lower Providence Church at 6:00 p.m.
Katie Day holds the Charles A. Schieren Chair in Church and Society at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. As a sociologist, with degrees in social ethics and theology as well, she teaches courses which draw heavily on both the social sciences and social ethics. She also directs the Metro/Urban Program at L.T.S.P. Her research interests have included extensive studies in African American congregations, cross-cultural volunteerism and faith-based involvement in economic development, community organizing and social services. Dr Day will discuss her new book, Faith on the Avenue; Religion on a City Street. This book is based on a research project focused on religious communities along Germantown Ave. Dr. Day is ordained in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). She holds a BA, Wheaton College, 1973; MDiv, Gordon-Conwell Seminary, 1977; STM, Union Seminary (NY), 1982; PhD, Temple University, 1996 and has pastored churches in in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, 1977-81, 1983-85.
