Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
We are so excited to welcome Rev. Katie Day as the keynote speaker for the next meeting of the Northwest Commission. Dr. Day holds the Charles A. Schieren Chair in Church and Society at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. She will be speaking on her new book, Faith on the Avenue: Religion on a City Street. In this book she draws on Germantown Avenue’s rich history, dating back to the earlier Dutch, Swedish and German settlers. She documents changes on the Avenue through the Revolutionary War, the Yellow Fever Epidemic, the Underground Railroad, the Civil Rights Movement and into current developments in religion along Germantown Avenue.
We will gather on Wednesday, May 28th at the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church, located at 3050 West Main Street, Eagleville, PA 19403. Registration and dinner will begin at 6pm. We are grateful to members of Lower Providence who are preparing dinner for us and to the choir who will be leading our worship! Towards the end of dinner, we will receive a report from the NW Commission’s Nominating Committee, hopefully completing the Leadership Team for the next year as well as any other business that comes before us. We will begin worship, followed by Dr. Day’s presentation at 7:15pm.
What an exciting time in the life of the Presbytery of Philadelphia. As we prepare to install Rev. Ruth Santana-Grace as our Executive Presbyter, the Regional Commissions are finding their voice and their work within our community of faith. Each gathering at different times and with different agendas, but all committed to strengthening the congregations that form the Presbytery of Philadelphia. This Easter season, we are grateful to be living into what seemed like the unchartered future for such a long time.
We hope you will join us for what promises to be an evening rich in hospitality, fellowship and theological conversation. See you at Lower Providence, where we will gather…
In the name of Christ Jesus our Lord!
