“Soles for Souls” Fundraiser To Build Sanctuary Village
“Soles for Souls” Fundraiser To Build Sanctuary Village: Are YOU Interested?
Sanctuary Village is organizing a fundraiser, which we are calling “Soles for Souls.” This will help to raise money to build a community of Tiny Houses in Philadelphia for people who are experiencing chronic street homelessness.
People are invited to donate new or gently used shoes, and these will be provided to distributors l in developing nations who will sell the shoes as a means of income, and Sanctuary Village receives funding based on the poundage of shoes collected. We are currently looking for shoe depo locations, and each location needs a “shoe captain.”
The captain can help to publicize the collection at their site and will place a bin to collect shoes (new or gently used), and as the bin gets filled, the shoes get put into plastic bags (to be provided to the captain), and the captain also emails Sanctuary Village Board President Catherine Farrell (cifarrell@comcast.net), once per week, to update on the collection; Catherine Farrell will come around and pick up the shoes, on an appropriate schedule. More information will be provided to captains, who would like to sign up! The collection should begin in early August and run through the end of September.
Sanctuary Village will be paid by the pound for the shoes collected. The shoes will be shipped abroad to be sold by small business owners, to provide earnings for them as well as affordable shoes for their customers. This is a win-win-win opportunity as it helps Sanctuary Village, these vendors, and the planet by not having all those unwanted shoes end up in landfills. Soles for Souls will run through the end of September.
