For the first time in our denomination’s history, the 224th General Assembly will conducted online on June 19, 26 & 27, 2020.

_____________

The Committee on the Office of the General Assembly has made the decision  to shorten the assembly and to focus solely on critical business issues.

Meeting every two years, the gathering of the General Assembly (GA), representing more than 1.4 million members, is the largest expression of our national and international connection as members of the Presbyterian Church, USA.  In addition to experiencing rich worship reflecting the diversity of which we are a part, GA embodies one of the distinct marks of our identity – as commissioners from our 170 presbyteries together discern and decide matters of common concern to church and society.  These prayerful decisions and recommendations are grounded on the belief that the Holy Spirit works through the voice of covenant community.

The Presbytery of Philadelphia is invited to elect 4 Ruling Elders, 4 Ministers of Word and Sacrament and 1 Young Adult Advisory Delegate (YAAD), each of whom will be assigned to one of the committees of the Assembly.  The work of these committees will include theology and worship, constitutional changes, denominational structures, evangelism and mission, work of our seminaries, ecumenical and interfaith relationships, along with responses to contemporary areas of concern.  Their committee recommendations will be made to the full Assembly in Plenary where they will be considered for adoption.
